Planet Indonesia, one of FSM’s impact investing partners, has been awarded the 2017 United Nations Equator Initiative prize for advancing nature-based local solutions for sustainable development. Out of 806 nominees from 120 countries, only 15 were chosen for this honor.

Incarnate Word Foundation’s Evening at the Museum

The St. Louis-based Incarnate Word Foundation, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary during 2017–2018, offered a special event November 16 at the Missouri History Museum as part of its anniversary observances. The viewing was a step toward reconnecting with the larger history of St. Louis race relations and reconsidering our perspective on them with the goal of coming to a deeper reconciliation.

On October 30, 2017, five Franciscan Sisters of Mary joined members of the James Beard Foundation for a special gala as the culmination of a day of training for chefs and food advocates. Srs. Judy Bell, Fran Haarmann, Kathy Buchheit, Irma Kennebeck, and Marge O’Gorman celebrated the collaboration of the FSM and the James Beard Foundation at this special dinner and reception at Sardella in Clayton.

Sr. Antona Ebo, FSM, Pioneer in Civil Rights, Passes Away

Sr. M. Antona Ebo, whose courageous words March 10, 1965, in Selma became a rallying cry for the Civil Rights movement, died Saturday, November 11, 2017, at her home at The Sarah Community in Bridgeton. She was 93 and had been a Franciscan Sister of Mary for 71 years.
